About the Club
Rockwood Trail Riders was founded in 1962 by two childhood friends who found themselves raising families and horses in the small Ontario town of Rockwood. Very few of the horse people had trailers, so they focused on local trail rides and other family-oriented fun events they could enjoy with and without their horses. A couple years later, they began horse shows and gymkhanas, moving from farm to farm. In the early 70's, the club having grown, The Dales family donated the space for a permanent arena, just on the north end of Rockwood. Horse shows are held the second Sunday of May, June, July and August with Trail Horse Trials and a Poker Run in September. At the shows we host both English and Western events, flat classes, showmanship and games. The highlight for youth members is the Youth team tournament in Paris every August. Many accomplished (and yes, Olympic) riders, coaches and judges have started their show experience at Rockwood. We promote Horsemanship, Sportsmanship and Fellowship!
This year we are celebrating our 50th anniversary!
